British Transplant Games Belfast 2011
This year saw a team of 22 competitors and 20 supporters attend the British Transplant Games which were held in Belfast, 4th - 8th August 2011. There were 4 new competitors this year, these being Lorraine Cummings, Paul Kirsop, David Smith and John Wink. Of the 20 supporters, two of these were team members who were unable to compete due to ill health but had come along to support their team.
The team managed to win a fantastic 15 Gold, 14 Silver and 10 Bronze and congratulations must go to our Volleyball team (pictured below), captained by Andy Drysdale, who in a well fought competition secured the Silver medal , just missing the Gold by one point.

Andy Drysdale, who as I mentioned earlier captained the Volleyball team to a very near victory, was the worthy winner of the 'Graham Marsh trophy'. Unfortunately, Andy will be unable to captain the team in the forthcoming Transplant Volleyball tournament to be held in Reading on 12th November 2011 as he is now working in Canada. I am sure you join me in wishing Andy well in this venture and we look forward to welcoming him home and back on the Freeman Team very soon. Another very worthy winner of an award was David Robinson. The TSUk awarded David the 'Arthur Hardy Memorial Trophy'. This trophy is awarded to those it is felt has overcome great difficulties and competed against all odds. David had his transplant in 1991 and has attended the Transplant Games every year since until last year when he became ill. However, although he was unable to compete this year he still attended the Games in order to support his team. David has worked tirelessly over the years promoting transplantation and was the founder of the Northern Ireland Transplant Association of which he was Chairman until recently, having to give this role up due to ill health. This award was very much deserved and very fitting that he should receive it in his home town of Belfast. Below is a photograph of David with his award. Our very best wishes go to both David and his wife Beverley, who has been a keen supporter of the Freeman team over the years.
